Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet Plan?

By Brenda Thompson

We all realize that the best foods for our weight loss plans are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These will be the foods that give us protein and also energy. They keep our bodies nutritionally balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to reduce our fat at the gym. Did you know, though, that a few of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly fine by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They might be even adding fat laden calories to your body! Here are several foods that you might be consuming which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

You usually are not actually helped by Sports Drinks. You've almost certainly been told that if you want to help your body renew itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Many doctors agree, though, that if your training is fewer than ninety minutes, water is a fine way to do this. Sports drinks are rich in calories and sugar and a lot of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural and also healthy diet. Try having some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar in chocolate may help your muscles start to repair themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

Protein Shakes aren't your friend. Lots of people think that drinking a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. The real truth is that if you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake really does is overburden your system with protein. Converse to typical belief, protein isn't really stored as muscle fiber, it's stored as fat. This shows that should you have taken in a lot of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat seriously isn't as healthy for you as you may well think. It's commonly thought that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread as well as lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The simple fact is that pre-packaged deli meat is crammed full of preservatives and about a third of your advised daily sodium intake. This could be especially tricky if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than getting pre-packaged deli meat, pick some home cooked chicken or the deli meat that is newly sliced at your deli counter. Sure these are extra expensive options but they are tremendously healthier for you.

There are a wide range of things that we think will help us lose weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor which things are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are very careful about what you eat and are good to your entire body, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
