Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. This is far from the truth. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. Some clinics now report that up to 50% of their patients undergoing botox are male!

The trends are always evolving

The fact is, botox usage is going up. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. This procedure has become quite mainstream and popular.

There is more than this though. Not only are botox treatments used to help those who have cosmetic issues, they are used for muscle spasticity disorders as well. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

There is no doubt that the future is bright for botox. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
